Little White Lies Cover.

I created these pieces of work as final outcomes for a Surface Pattern project. I was inspired by my photographic research I had conducted for this project as well my illustrations from my project sketchbook.
My theme for the patterns was 'urban' and the patterns are for the Attack The Block issue of Little White Lies magazine, this is where I got the idea of the nebula pattern to give my designs some colour.
Overall I'm pleased with the way my outcomes and I think they suit their purpose well.

Saul Bass Inspired Poster.

This is a film poster that I created at College as part of my mini project for Contempary Art.
I was inspired by the work of Saul Bass. We chose to advertise the film 'Juno',
from looking at the original poster I got the idea of keeping the same colour scheme,
which helped my design look as simplistic as possible, like the way Saul Bass presents his work.

Smoke.

I created this piece of work my Digital Skills project at college.
I started with a plain black background in Photoshop, then I chose a suitable bold
font so that it would still be legible after applying the Warped tool to it.
The smoke effect was then created using a custom brush.
I think the best way to improve this image would be to lower the
opacity of the font so it doesn't appear as bold.

I then went on to invert the same image which created this piece of work.
Out of the two designs I created, I prefer this one. I think the brushes work better with this colour scheme. I think this image would require the same adjustments as the original in order to improve it. Overall I'm still pleased with the final outcome of both pieces.

Fossil.

This piece of work was done for my typography project at college.
For this particular project I conducted research into the history of typography,
typographic design and the structure of a letter form.
In this project I had to create a type the represented my chosen word,
in this case it was 'fossil'. My mind map of words associated with the word fossil
helped to inspire my final design.
I made this on Adobe Photoshop by applying a texture to some sketches I had drawn
and scanned into the computer, I then positioned the different images
to form the structure of the letters.
If I was to change this design I would make the letters look like they were actual
fossils imprinted into rock, I would achieve this by using shadows
and the same textured background.

It Can't Rain All The Time.

This piece of work was created for my Digital Skills project at college.
The quote is from the film 'The Crow'.
I made it in Adobe Photoshop using custom brushes and textures.
If I was going to change something about this image, I would change the appearance
of the ink smudges. I think they would need to be more subtle to have the best effect possible.

Hello there.

I'm Lauren and I'm a graphic design student, and I have decided to create this blog to share my work with others.

When it comes down to design, I am particularly drawn to is illustration. Illustration appeals to me most because I think it helps to really show case peoples skills and imagination. My favourite illustrator is Mcbess. Mcbess' work has taught me to base my work on something that I know well so it's never hard to come up with inspiration for a new design that I want to create. I like Mcbess' creations because of the simplicity in the monochrome look he gives his work, he doesn't need colour to add to the detail in his work. Another thing that strikes me with his work is the way he uses iconography, anything from a beard to a steak can influence his work and he still manages to make a really diverse piece of work.
